R.C.T. (Root Canal Treatment)

Root canal treatment is needed for two main reasons. The first is infection. The second reason for a root canal is damage to the pulp that can’t be fixed. An untreated cavity is a common cause of pulp infection. The decay erodes the enamel and dentin of the tooth until it reaches a root canal. This allows bacteria to infect the pulp. Antibiotics can’t get to infections inside teeth. The inflammation caused by the infection reduces the blood supply to the tooth. The reduced blood supply also keeps the pulp from healing.

RCT is done everywhere but sometimes pain may occur during treatment. To prevent occurence of pain we specialise in RVG & Apex Locator Assisted RCT. RVG (X-Ray) and Apex loactor are used in conjunction to determine the length of teeth so during RCT there is almost no chances of pain occurence.

Saving your Teeth with Root Canal Treatment

Your tooth might need a root canal if:-
1. It hurts when you bite down on it, touch it or push on it.
2. It is sensitive to heat.
3. It is sensitive to cold for more than a couple of seconds.
4. There is swelling near the tooth.
5. It is discolored (whether it hurts or not).
6. It is broken .

Cleaning and shaping your root canals

rct01First, your dentist makes an opening in your tooth and removes any fillings and decay. Then your dentist removes unhealthy pulp with tiny, flexible, files. Using delicate, up-and-down motions, your dentist gently cleans and smoothens your canals to prepare them for the canal-filling materials.

After the pulp has been removed from your root canals and they have been smoothened, your root canals will be filled. Your dentist may fill the canals with tiny cone-shaped pieces of gutta-percha, a firm, rubber like material, or use another dental material. A sealer cement is used to seal the filling material into place.
A post, stainless steel or another metal, is sometimes cemented into your root canal to build up your tooth after root canal therapy.
A filling, usually silver or a tooth-coloured dental material, may be used to fill the opening in the top of your tooth.
A crown, usually gold or porcelain, may be used to cover a tooth that has a large opening after root canal therapy.
